Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) - saint, mystic, poet, composer and polymath. She was one of the great female figures of the Middle Ages, was a monastery founder and abbess. Her knowledge, her writings and especially her compositions have found renewed great interest in our modern times. The Christophorus label has released several albums with the chants of Saint Hildegard over the last four decades and now presents them collected as a 5-album box set. The oldest recording was made by the Hamburg early music specialist Helga Weber and her ensemble in 1980; it is probably the earliest recording of music by Hildegard von Bingen ever made. They are joined by two productions by the ensemble für frühe musik augsburg, which is one of the early renowned ensembles of medieval music. Sabine Lutzenberger was also part of this ensemble, who today can easily be described as the most experienced singer of Hildegard's chants. In her recording from 2013 with her own ensemble Per-Sonat, she makes her great knowledge perceptible in a very intimate interpretation. In their "Hommage to Hildegard", the Estampie ensemble combines medieval music with modern music theatre and elements of pop in a "cross over". The focus is on Hildegard's reflections and music on the four elements.
