One of Jordi Savall's greatest recording successes was the album La Lira d'Espéria, released in 1994 on the Astrée label. La Lira d'Espéria II focuses on Galicia, a Spanish region with rich musical traditions - including a Celtic one - and some remarkably well preserved manuscripts dating from the Middle Ages. As with volume one, Savall's performances here are full of fantasy and color. Accompanied by percussionist Pedro Estevan, he plays a vielle, a rebec and a rebab.
